Throughout the Bible, redemption is repeatedly pictured around a table. God provides food for his people, welcomes strangers, restores the undeserving, and ultimately promises a feast in his presence. From the meals and invitations of the Old Testament to the table fellowship of Jesus, Scripture reveals a God who does not merely save his people from judgment—he brings them near and welcomes them home.

This series explores how biblical hospitality points us to the gospel. We encounter competing invitations at the tables of Wisdom and Folly, Abraham hosting God, Mephibosheth unexpectedly dining at the king’s table, and David describing the Lord not only as his Shepherd but as the gracious Host who prepares a table for him. These themes find their fulfillment in Jesus Christ, who deliberately dines with sinners, receives outsiders, forgives the guilty, and transforms strangers into guests and guests into members of God’s household.

At the center of Redemptive Hospitality is the recognition that our hospitality begins with God’s hospitality toward us. We welcome because we have first been welcomed. We open our homes and tables because Christ has opened the way into the Father’s house. Christian hospitality, therefore, is more than entertaining friends; it is a gospel-shaped practice through which the church reflects the grace of the Savior who welcomes those who could never repay him.

The series ultimately looks forward to the destination toward which every gracious table in Scripture points: the marriage supper of the Lamb, where Christ’s redeemed people will enjoy perfect communion with God forever. The story of redemption is the story of the God who seeks the estranged, receives the sinner, prepares the table, and says, Come and feast.

Redemptive Hospitality traces one of Scripture’s beautiful pictures of salvation: God welcoming sinners into fellowship with himself.
